PHYTOSPEX shines eight wavelengths of light — from violet through to near-infrared — into a soil sample and measures what comes back. The shape of that reflectance curve carries information about organic carbon, moisture, texture and nutrient status, which the instrument converts into soil health indicators.
It pairs with an Android phone over its own Wi-Fi hotspot, so it works in a field with no mobile signal. Readings, advice and history are stored on the phone and sync when you next have a connection.
Before you order
PHYTOSPEX is completing regulatory certification and laboratory validation. We are not taking general orders yet. Pilot placements with farmers, FPOs, KVKs and institutions are open, and we will publish pricing and availability once certification is complete.
What it does
- A soil reading in minutes, at the plot, without posting a sample
- Fertilizer advice as a ranked, costed plan per acre — not raw numbers
- Works entirely offline; English and हिन्दी throughout
- Export a PDF, CSV or Soil Health Card-style report for records
What it does not do
- It is an optical instrument, not a chemistry laboratory. It measures reflected light and infers soil properties from the shape of it; a laboratory measures the chemistry directly.
- Validation against accredited laboratory results is not complete. Until it is, every value carries a confidence range and the app says plainly where it is uncertain.
- It does not replace a laboratory soil test or your Soil Health Card. It is built to give you a fast reading in the field between them, not instead of them.
- It reads the sample you give it, not the whole plot. Where you take the sample from and how you prepare it decide what the reading actually represents.
